I have trained in Hindustani vocal music since the age of four. My gurus have included Pt. Hanuman Mishra, Ustad Shaffi Ahmad Khan, Pt. Devashish Dey, and Pts. Rajan & Sajan Mishra.

I give workshops on Hindustani music to musicians and non-musicians (for example, at the Athenaeum at Claremont McKenna College).

Much of my theatrical work uses live music (see Kahani), sometimes with professional musicians as accompanists, through my own singing (see In Her Eyes), and through training actors to perform themselves, even in musical forms that are completely new to them (see Hayavadana).

I have also trained in Western classical music and jazz.
